Amantys has appointed power industry business development expert Alan Baird to the Management Team as Vice President of Sales and Business Development. Baird has over 20 years’ experience in electrical and electronic engineering, sales management and business development across the power electronics industry, successfully developing and delivering new business throughout his career.
Commenting on this appointment, CEO Bryn Parry said “The addition of Alan to the Amantys Management Team brings a level of experience and a depth of knowledge of the power electronics business that will help us greatly to capitalise on our early commercial successes. We’re looking forward to growing our existing IGBT driver business and opening up new opportunities for our power products and capabilities.”
Speaking on his appointment, Baird said: “What attracted me to Amantys was the speed with which a new player in Power Electronics has gained commercial traction, both with equipment manufacturers and power semiconductor suppliers. Many of the companies Amantys is working with today are already familiar to me, but I see many further opportunities to grow that success.”
Baird held the position of Sales and Marketing Director at Turbo Power Systems from 2006 until 2011 and led the sales growth from £3M to over £10M. He also managed the re-branding and re-positioning of the Company from its origins as Turbo Genset and Intelligent Power Systems to become a globally recognised specialist motor, generator and power electronics company.
At ABB Drives UK, Baird held the positions of Channel Manager and Sales Manager – OEM and Engineered drives from 2001 until 2006 and won strategic engagements in the low and medium voltage drive market with customers such as Air Products, CompAir and Rolls Royce.
In his early career, Baird worked as a Drives Applications Engineer at GEC Industrial Controls in Kidsgrove, Sydney and Vancouver before moving into sales at Schneider Electric. At Emerson-Control Techniques, he held export sales and product marketing roles for their low voltage AC Drives which included defining initial market requirements, product specifications and the global launch of new products.
