Amantys adds power industry luminaries to advisory board

Amantys has appointed power industry luminaries John Scott and Professor Bill Drury to its newly formed Technical Advisory Board. They join Amantys founder Dr. Patrick Palmer from Cambridge University adding new experience and expertise to aid the long-term development of the power electronics industry.

John Scott is a recognised authority in the field of electricity distribution and transmission and is currently a member of the Advisory Board of the UK Energy Research Centre. He was previously the Technical Director for OFGEM, the British gas and electricity regulator, Director of Engineering for National Grid Company in the UK and manager of the National Electricity Control Centre. His principal area of work involves electricity grid design, addressing strategic changes for the future of Smart Grids and their development in Europe, the USA and beyond.

Speaking on his appointment, Scott said: “There is a global trend for radical change in the architecture for energy transmission and distribution. Next generation power networks will utilise highly efficient power conversion with a greater degree of sensing, monitoring and intelligence. I have been impressed with the progress that Amantys has made in addressing this need and I look forward to working with the team”.

Professor Bill Drury has worked for over 30 years in the engineering industry in a variety of senior positions for Siemens, Rolls-Royce and Control Techniques – part of Emerson. Professor Drury is a Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor of Innovation at Bristol University, a Visiting Professor at Newcastle University, and has chaired several international conferences in the field of drives and power electronics. He was Chairman of the Power Electronics Strategy Group responsible for the recently launched BIS report “Power Electronics: A strategy for success”. He has more than 60 publications to his name.
Professor Drury commented: “Power Electronics is an enabling technology and plays a critical role in almost all aspects of our daily lives. Its importance is being brought into ever sharper focus by the low carbon agenda. The Amantys team is working on innovative products that offer significant practical benefits of higher efficiency, reduced electrical emissions and better silicon utilisation. I look forward to sharing my experience to help guide the company’s technology direction.”

Bryn Parry, CEO, Amantys adds: “The market response to the recent launch of the Amantys Power Drive capped a strong year for Amantys. We’re delighted to further that progress with these Advisory Board appointments, re-affirming our commitment to make real change within the power electronics industry. The depth of power experience and guidance that both John and Bill bring to the company will prove invaluable, not only to our products and direction but in the industry as a whole.”
