TDK-Lambda’s NVM175 is now approved to IEC/EN 60601-1, ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1 and CAN/CSA-C22.2 No 60601-1-08 3rd Edition medical safety standards. This is in addition to the current approval to the 2nd Edition, ensuring full safety approval for medical equipment is maintained during the transition period from 2nd to 3rd Editions. Typical applications for the NVM175 range include medical, industrial control, computing, automation, security, network servers and routers, broadcast, communications, lifesciences/laboratory, instrumentation and ATE.

Available with either 12 or 24V output (with 12V/0.2A standby), the NVM175 supplies have universal ac input and are rated at 180W at 50°C with customer air. Leakage current is less than 200µA at 264Vac/63Hz surpassing worldwide medical equipment requirements. Achieving up to 90% efficiency and consuming less than 1W standby power, the NVM175 meets TDK-Lambda’s design brief for environmentally responsible products.

Other standard features include a power good signal, remote on/off and remote sense, as well as protection from over current, over voltage and over temperature conditions.
“We are approved by the Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) to 60601-1 3rd Edition, which helps us to ensure that our medical power supplies are tested and approved to the highest safety standards,” says Bob Taylor, Safety Engineering Manager at TDK-Lambda UK.

The power supply manufacturer has actively participated in the Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) ‘Clients Test Data Program’ (CTDP) and the IECEE CB Scheme SMT (Supervised Manufacturer’s Test) Program, which is now also under the supervision of UL, for over 16 years. Being on these programs allows TDK-Lambda to use its own testing facilities to generate UL and CB safety reports and test data, this capability helps to reduce time and the accompanying costs for the safety approvals of its own AC-DC power supplies and DC-DC converters.

In addition to 60601-1 3rd Edition, all models in the TDK-Lambda NVM175 range are approved to IEC/EN/UL/CSA 60950-1 for general purpose applications and IEC/EN/UL/CSA 61010-1 for laboratory and process control applications, as well as meet Class B conducted and radiated EMC EN55011 and EN55022. The NVM175 also carries the CE mark, according to the LV Directive, and comes with a 3-year warranty.

ip.access has released the next-generation of its management tool for the small cell layer of mobile operator networks. The company’s Network Orchestration System (NOS) combines a full suite of tools that will enable operators to quickly deploy small cells and introduce new services. The solution also brings operators the ability to manage and improve small cell performance and the interaction between the macro network and the small cell layer to drive down dropped call rates (DCR) to class-leading levels.

Announcing the capability, ip.access founder and CTO Nick Johnson said: “Small cells are rapidly evolving. They are no longer simply standalone islands of coverage but are becoming an integral part of the operator’s coverage and capacity solutions. That demands more management, more performance monitoring, and more interaction with network’s operating and business systems.

“Our next generation Network Orchestration System provides that layer of interaction and also enables operators to accelerate the deployment of private and public access small cell networks and services quickly, efficiently and with unparalleled flexibility.”
The ip.access next generation NOS includes four key operator management tools:

• Network Register: Enables operators to quickly roll-out private consumer small cell services by bridging the gap between the small cells and the operator’s business systems. As each small cell is switched on and self-configures itself, the NOS obtains all the information required about the cell and its registered handsets. This data is then fed directly to the operator’s existing business systems.

• SON Support: Today’s Self Organising Networks (SON) enable operators to automatically manage performance on the Macro network layer. However, operators looking to provide infill coverage or additional capacity with a network of public access small cells are faced with a new set of challenges that current SONs were not designed to handle. The ip.access NOS provides an interface to the SON infrastructure that ensures the two network layers work together, switching calls from one layer to the other with no drop-off in service or radio interference with surrounding cells.

• App Manager: The ip.access NOS supports the GSMA’s OneAPI open standard and therefore enables developers and operators to roll-out a series of new network services aimed at the small cell layer. As the number and density of small cells grows – particularly in city centres and shopping malls – it will be possible for operators to compete with over-the-top players and introduce location-based services that are not reliant on the use of battery hungry GPS data.

• OysterCatcher: Integral to the next generation NOS is the remote diagnostics and performance monitoring capability of the award-winning OysterCatcher service from ip.access. OysterCatcher captures performance statistics from individual access points and can aggregate data right across the small cell layer. Individual small cells, clusters or the entire layer can also be fine-tuned remotely to improve performance or react to changing network conditions.

TTI Europe now stocks Molex’s range of Picoflex headers and receptacles. These connectors provide high power and signal in a space-saving, robust and reliable package and can be used in a diverse range of wire-to-board applications.

The Picoflex IDT connector system offers a high density solution in circuit sizes from 4 up to 26 and mates with industry standard 1.27mm cables. The connectors benefit from a mated height of 6.40mm (approximately 15% less height than traditional 1.27mm connector systems), making them ideal for vertical-mating configurations. The strong one-piece upper housing provides excellent cable retention and is ideal for small circuit size applications.

The high-reliability contact features a four-point interface with the cable and two points of contact between the header and receptacle, providing excellent polarisation to both the PCB and between the female connector and header. The SMT latched header has a positive-latch feature that gives 50% greater retention than is required for the standard friction-lock 90814 series.

The CSR µEnergy SDK 1.4, the latest version of the company’s software toolkit for the speedy development of Bluetooth Smart devices, is now available. This updated version provides a complete development platform that features Bluetooth low energy profile and sample application support, and includes all the latest Bluetooth v4.0 features to enable developers to create exciting new Bluetooth Smart devices quickly and with a low initial investment. In addition, the CSR µEnergy SDK 1.4 offers out-of-the-box operation with all iOS-based devices.

Bluetooth v4.0 introduced low energy technology to the Bluetooth standard, enabling new Bluetooth Smart devices that can operate for months or even years on tiny, coin-cell batteries. With 10 qualified Bluetooth v4.0 profiles, 8 related sample applications and numerous services included with the CSR µEnergy SDK 1.4, developers can create working Bluetooth low energy applications in as little as 10 minutes, according to Paul Williamson, Senior Product Marketing Manager, CSR. Manufacturing and testing are simplified too, with the SDK’s support for the direct test modes found in test and measurement products from Rhode & Schwartz and Anritsu.

NXP has unveiled the BGU8006 low-noise amplifier, which it says is the tiniest GPS LNA on the market, designed for very small portable devices. Available in a tiny wafer level chip scale package (WLCSP), the latest GPS LNAs have a footprint of just 0.65 x 0.44 x 0.2 mm and require only two external components. NXP says a 38% saving PCB space can be made, compared to the smallest solution on the market today. Also featuring a low noise figure of 0.60 dB, the LNAs offer good reception for weak GPS signals by dynamically suppressing strong cellular and WLAN transmit signals.

The new BGU8006 LNA uses adaptive biasing techniques to detect any output power from jammers, and compensate by temporarily increasing the current. Adaptive biasing dynamically suppresses strong cellular, WLAN and Bluetooth signals, which can drive typical GPS LNAs into compression, lowering gain, generating intermodulation and harmonics that can overpower weak signals, and causing poor GPS reception. With the BGU8006, adaptive biasing improves linearity with a 10 dB better IP3 under -40 to -20 dBm jamming conditions and provides effective GPS output with jammer power up to -15 dBm.

The BGU8006 LNA uses WLCSP technology, which is ideal for space-constrained applications. WLCSP minimises parasitic inductance because there are no leads, bond wires or interposer connections, and optimises package size, cost and thermal characteristics. In addition to the BGU8006, NXP also offers the BGU8007 LNA in a 1.45 x 1.0 x 0.5-mm 6-pin leadless SOT886 package. Both LNAs require only one external matching inductor and one external decoupling capacitor for easy design-in and savings in component costs and PCB area.

NXP’s BGU800x series LNAs are suited to a wide range of GPS applications, including smartphones, feature phones, tablets, personal navigation devices (PNDs), digital still cameras (DSCs), digital video cameras (DVCs), RF front-end modules for phones, and complete GPS chipset modules. For automotive telematics applications such as emergency call (eCall) and toll collection systems, NXP also offers the BGU7004 and BGU7008, which are AEC-Q100 qualified.

Omron Electronic Components Europe has re-engineered two relay families specifically to address the very specific low power and long term reliability characteristics required for grid-connected solar PV and wind turbine inverters, charge controllers, battery powered UPS back-up systems and similar applications.

Grid tied solar PV inverters use pairs of monostable grid protection relays whose operation is essential to ensure system and user safety. The key challenges in the design of these relays are that their power consumption has to be extremely low yet they need to operate very quickly when required under hot start conditions. Omron has re-engineered its G7L-PV DPST-NO and G8P SPST-NO range specifically to meet these requirements, with a fast operate time of typically 20ms, long life and a low power coil. Both devices address the applicable standards which are IEC62109-1, 2 (July 2011) and VDE0126-1.

The new Omron G7L-PV features a large contact gap of over 3mm to ensure working voltage and over-voltage standards compliance. Contact rating has been increased to 280VAC with a 30A, AC7a Inductive load. Other changes made to the G7L-PV include re-profiling of both the stationary and wiping contacts, slightly harder contact material, stronger coil spring, changing magnet wire from Class B (132 deg.C) to higher temperature tolerant F (150 deg.C) and spool material enhancement. The G7L-PV has a class leading low power consumption of 320mW. The device features a compact, PCB mounting package of 52.5mm L x 35.5mm W x 41mm H.

Omron has also added the G8P-1A4P-BG, a new member of the G8P relay family, optimised for durable hot start capability and with good coil and contact temperature rise characteristics. The newly re-engineered device has a contact gap of over 2mm, and a rated electrical life of 30k operations at 20A 250VAC. This relay is even smaller than the G7L-PV, and is supplied in a plastic sealed PCB mounting package of 32.1mm L x 27.2mm W x 20.1mm H.
